You can live your dream, it just might take a while to get there

Dear Friend,

This December will mark 4 years of being retired from the U.S. Army. It’s been an interesting journey.

2017 — Started college while doing speaking gigs on the side (didn’t get paid but it was good PR I guess).

2018 — Struggled to get experience in the supply chain industry. No one was interested in a student with no experience. Finally got an interview while sitting in the career center hanging out with the guidance counselor. Dude asked, “Cedric, you’re a veteran right?” Yelp. Next he picks up the phone and calls a guy looking for student veterans studying supply chain management.

A few weeks later a Freight Forwarding Company brings me on as an intern. During the internship a company called Crane pops on my radar. Never heard of it but apparently it’s a major player in the logistics industry. They bring me in for an interview but don’t call or write . Guess the interview was not good.

2019 — Crane brings me back for a second interview. Still no call. I end up running with a group of friends. They ask what was going on. I tell them Crane hadn’t called. They mentioned a friend of theirs works at Crane. They call him. Next we are on the phone talking. A few days later Crane calls. Guess who gets hired? Yes Sir!

2020 — Sitting at home a little down. Had been looking to get into sales. No luck. All of a sudden a text message comes through. A chance to work in a sales position with a dream company. You can’t make this stuff up man.

God is good.

Side note: If you want to be a better salesman, consider operations. I learned invaluable lessons in operations. Picked up skills that have made me a better salesman. For that I will forever be indebted to Crane for giving me a shot.
