Wanda Vision and Your Target Market

“We are an unusual couple, you know?”
“Oh, I don’t think that was ever in question.”
-Wanda Maximoff and Vision

According to The Wrap, Vision is an android with no way to father children, Wanda magically created twin sons — whose souls were unknowingly made from the demon Mephisto. Very interesting indeed.

When it comes to being interesting and giving your target market something worth talking about, there are two variables you have the most control over:

  1. The story you have to share.
  2. The town you grew up in to help get that story told.

And if you can come up with the first variable, while leveraging the second, you’ve got a good chance at building real interest with your target market.

So today, I’m going to give you a demonstration that will help you do just that.

In fact, it is the very technique you can use and have the home court advantage over your competition.

Start with your hometown reporter.

Hometown reporters are always looking for a good story to publish.

You …

  • get free publicity
  • brand recognition
  • expert status
  • become a local celebrity
  • stand out in a crowded market

See what I mean? You get all the upside with very little downside risks.

Now, let’s take a look at how you are going to get your story published in your local hometown newspaper.

Step 1: Decide what story you are going to share.

Step 2: Make an outline of your story. Just put it down on paper. Get it out of your head.

Step 3: Locate your hometown reporter. The place where you grew up as a kid.

Go to Google and enter the following:

“city” “state” “newspaper reporter”

Example:

You will find a website that more than likely has the email of your local reporter.

Once you’ve located the local reporter take note of their email and send them the following:

Hi Mrs. [Insert Last Name],

I’m reaching out to you as I’m [insert reason you feel you have a story worth sharing]. If you need a good story on how a [insert your business title]who grew up in [insert city and state of hometown] made a good life in [insert name of industry/sector your story took place] let me know. I graduated from [insert your high school and year you graduated].

Be sure to include your full name, phone number and LinkedIn profile link in your signature block.

Here is an email that resulted in a featured story in the local hometown newspaper (name and phone number has been changed to protect the innocent):

Hi Mrs. Skywalker,

I’m reaching out to you as I’m approaching retirement from the U.S. Army after 20 years. If you need a good story on how a veteran who grew up in Albany, Ga made a good life in the military let me know. I graduated from Westover in 1996 and joined the Army shortly afterward.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

After sending this email the reporter will more than likely reach out to hear more about your story. At this point you are prepared because you outlined it during Step 2, right? Too easy.

In Conclusion

If you’ve taken the above steps, congratulations. You are now on your way to new found opportunities. You have to experience it to believe it. You’ll wonder why you doubted yourself and thought your story was not that big of a deal. Trust me, your origin story is a very big deal. Bigger than life itself and can take you to a new level of experience.
